Evaluation of stone-impact damages


This paper offers a solution for analyzing stone chipping of polymer coatings on automotive parts by pulsed phase thermography (PPT). To analyse its possible field of application, different coating types on different substrates are applied and measured. Moreover, it is demonstrated how the measuring signals can be correlated with specific defects.

Alicona is used to verify the results which have been obtained with pulsed phase thermography (PPT) and optical measurements visualize the defect nature of stone-chipping.
