Tool measurement

Cutting edge measurement of drills, milling cutters and tap tools
InfiniteFocus is a tool measurement device. Small radii and angles are measured in high resolution. The extremely large scanning range allows the 3D measurement of various tools and forms. In addition to the InfiniteFocus standard measurement system, also other measurement devices within in the InfiniteFocus line for cutting edge measurement are offered. InfiniteFocus Real3D for instance is used for 360° measurement of cutting edges. The IF-EdgeMaster performs automatic cutting edge measurement of e.g. inserts.

Micro precision components

Form and roughness measurement of micro machined components
InfiniteFocus is used for measuring micro milled and/or eroded surfaces. Even with steep flanks of a thread form of e.g. micro gear drives operators achieve a vertical resolution of up to 10nm. The surface as well as the form is measured contactless, traceably and with high repeatability.

Medical technology

Measurement of tooth implants, artificial joints and tablets
InfiniteFocus measures roughness even at the root of the thread of tooth implants. Also the form of spherical geometries of artificial joints is measured with high resolution and repeatable accuracy. Tablets are checked for authenticity via volume measurement.

Material science

3D measurement of gear drive geometries, machine elements and in gear production
Even components with difficult accessible geometries such as gear drives or components in friction, wear and lubrication are measured in highest vertical resolution. Users measure the roughness of gear drives even at the tooth root and tooth flank. With area based reference levels, new reference parameters are being defined and component geometries are being optimized.

Paper and print industry

Direct paper surface measurement, simplified failure analysis and platen inspection
The direct and area based roughness measurement provides essential information about the real state of the paper surface. Measures to increase printability are evaluated numerically. In the print industry, InfiniteFocus is used particularly for cup measurement on platens in research and production.

Micro diecasting and polymer

Quality assurance in injection molding and polymer industry
Users verify the dimensional accuracy of injection molded components even at material transitions. This is automatically achieved throughout the difference measurement of the real geometry to its CAD-dataset. Roughness measurement is used to define the gloss level of polymer surfaces. InfiniteFocus also measures complex injection molded components with steep flanks as well as compound material characteristics in highest vertical resolution.

Forensics

Measurement of tool traces, projectiles and tissue samples with true color information
Typical applications of InfiniteFocus in forensics are the measurement of tool traces, paintings, projectiles, bone fragments, tissue samples, fibers and synthetics. Steep flanks and smooth as well as reflective surfaces of e.g. weapons are measured quickly, without much effort and in high resolution. Measurements in 3D with color information reinforce findings and resulting conclusions.

Micro electronics

3D Measurement of solder paste print and wire bonders
The measurement of volume suggests the right amount and dispensing of solder paste at the SMD assembling. As for uncased components (“bare dies”), the form of wire bonders is measured. Form and roughness measurement of contact points on substrate and lead frame guarantees durability and functionality.

Roughness and form measurement devices of the InfiniteFocus line

InfiniteFocus is the standard measurement device of the InfiniteFocus product group. The measurement systems of the InfiniteFocus line are roughness and form measurement devices for quality assurance in the lab and in production. All measurement systems work within the area based technique Focus-Variation. The InfiniteFocus product group comprises the standard measurement system InfiniteFocus and a series of industry specific variants:

3d micro-coordinate measurement technique for roughness and form measurement

Alicona offers optical 3d surface measurement systems for quality assurance in research and production. Core competence is the measurement of roughness and form also across large measurement areas and volumes. The cutting edge measurement and the measurement of small radii and angles are typical applications. Focus-Variation, the core technique of the InfiniteFocus line, combines the traditional surface metrology and the micro coordinate measurement technology. This technology achieves traceable and repeatable results in highest resolution even in production.
