The system: measurement robot for flexible 3D surface measurement

IF-Robot is a robot assisted 3D measurement instrument for production. The 3D measuring unit consists of the robust InfiniteFocus measurement sensor and a 6-axis robot. Operators benefit from flexible positioning and measure roughness, form and orientation in high resolution and repeatable accuracy. The measurement sensor is applicable to all industrial robots.
The IF-Sensor is used as both, a measuring robot or an independent 3D measurement tool in the production line.

The function: roughness, form and orientation measurement in production

IF-Robot is integrated into production according to requirements. Large vertical scan ranges allow measurement of all kind of component geometries. With the quick and high resolution surface measurement, dimensional accuracy, form tolerances and form deviations are being inspected. Users achieve longer durability under higher reproducibility. By defining parameters and reference levels, measures for optimizing production processes are being implemented efficiently.

The benefits: accessible surface characteristics

IF-Robot makes any number of surface characteristics accessible and measurable. This also includes geometries with flanks of up to 86°. Even surfaces with different materials and material characteristics are measured in a vertical resolution up to 10nm. High vertical scanning speed allows fast cycle times. Every measurement is provided with color information registered to the 3D data. The easy automation of measurement tasks increases process reliability. The IF-Robot provides repeatable and traceable measurements irrespective of production conditions such as external light and temperature fluctuations.

The applications: aircraft turbines, engine blocks and steel

IF-Robot is an optical measurement station for measuring microstructured geometries. Traditional applications are aircraft turbines, engine blocks and steel. The measurement robot is used in the same industries as the standard measurement system InfiniteFocus. Applications are the cutting edge measurement in tool industry, medical technology, material science, micro injection molding, microelectronics and the paper and print industry. The measurement of tolerance, form deviation or corrosion analysis are cross-sector applications.

The technology: Focus-Variation for area based 3D measurement

IF-Robot is based on Focus-Variation. The optical technology delivers a measurement point density of more than 100 mil measurement points, which enables form and roughness measurements of even large measurement areas and volumes. As an area based technology, Focus-Variation is already included in the most recent EN ISO standard 25178. With each measurement, users automatically receive data for evaluating the measurement uncertainty.

Roughness and form measurement devices of the InfiniteFocus line

IF-Robot is an optical measurement device of the InfiniteFocus product group. The measurement systems of the InfiniteFocus line are roughness and form measurement devices for quality assurance in the lab and in production. All measurement systems work within the area based technique Focus-Variation. The InfiniteFocus product group comprises the standard measurement system InfiniteFocus and a series of industry specific variants:

3d micro-coordinate measurement technique for roughness and form measurement

Alicona offers optical 3d surface measurement systems for quality assurance in research and production. Core competence is the measurement of roughness and form also across large measurement areas and volumes. The cutting edge measurement and the measurement of small radii and angles are typical applications. Focus-Variation, the core technique of the InfiniteFocus line, combines the traditional surface metrology and the micro coordinate measurement technology. This technology achieves traceable and repeatable results in highest resolution even in production.
