3D measurement of tooth implants, artificial joints and tablets

InfiniteFocus in medical technology

InfiniteFocus establishes the correlation between the surface finish of e.g. a tooth implant and its performance in the human body. The numerical determination of this interaction is possible as InfiniteFocus measures roughness combined with form where it is necessary – also at the implant’s root of the thread.

Measure roughness of tooth implants also at the root of the thread

  • achieve extensive roughness measurements conforming to EN ISO 25178 also across large measurement areas
  • measure roughness even at the root of the thread traceably thanks to high measurement accuracy at steep flanks
  • define correlation between the implant’s topography and its performance in the body
  • optimize new materials and develop implants with high protein binding capacity
  • benefit from intuitive user guidance and high measurement speed without sample preparation
  • obtain measurements in a vertical resolution of up to 10nm
  • InfiniteFocus Real3D enables full form measurement via 360° rotation and therefore measures e.g. thread pitches of implants

Measure artificial joints

  • optimize the quality of knee and hip implants by measuring surface form and roughness
  • achieve high resolution form measurements also of free formed surfaces
  • measure multi curved surfaces traceably, with repeatable accuracy and in high measurement point density
  • measure form deviations quickly and without effort, log them and document them with true color information
  • measure surfaces automatically and thus identify and analyze defects
  • gain more data with higher information density via area based measurement
  • obtain a vertical resolution of up to 10nm even with smooth and varying reflective surfaces

Verify authenticity of tablets via 3D measurement

  • identify medical plagiarism via 3D measurement with InfiniteFocus
  • measure tablet punch of medications and verify authenticity
  • measure depth, length, angle, distances etc. of embossed characters and brandings
  • gain additional indentification parameters via 3D measurement with true color information
  • determine smoothness by measuring surface roughness also across large measurement areas
  • measure printing characteristics of packaging or folding box and blister automatically

More applications

  • cutting edge measurement of surgical instruments such as bone drills, bone milling cutter etc.
  • tooth wear analysis
  • measurement of chrome steels, titanium, ceramics, metals and alloys
  • quality assurance of injection molding and micro components

Roughness and form measurement devices of the InfiniteFocus line

The measurement systems of the InfiniteFocus line are roughness and form measurement devices for quality assurance in the lab and in production. All measurement systems work within the area based technique Focus-Variation. The InfiniteFocus product group comprises the standard measurement system InfiniteFocus and a series of industry specific variants:

3d micro-coordinate measurement technique for roughness and form measurement

Alicona offers optical 3d surface measurement systems for quality assurance in research and production. Core competence is the measurement of roughness and form also across large measurement areas and volumes. The cutting edge measurement and the measurement of small radii and angles are typical applications. Focus-Variation, the core technique of the InfiniteFocus line, combines the traditional surface metrology and the micro coordinate measurement technology. This technology achieves traceable and repeatable results in highest resolution even in production.
