New roughness standard - Traceable optical roughness measurements
Traceable form- and roughness measurement
Tactile and optical roughness measurements are traceable and comparable using the same standard. The new roughness standard is suitable for both, tactile and optical measurement techniques.
As of now, a new roughness standard provides the verification of optical roughness measurements. Usually, the surface of conventional standards has been only suitable for tactile scanning techniques. Consequently, optical measurements have been hardly traceable.
Aliconas´ new roughness standard is suitable for tactile as well as optical measurement systems. The standard shows that the optical technique Focus-Variation and tactile measurements achieve equivalent measurement results within the same tolerance range.
Next to the roughness standard for the verification of optical roughness measurements, Alicona also offers a calibrated and certified micro contour artefact for traceable form measurements.
The optical technique of Focus-Variation is used for high resolution measurement in the lab and in production. Measurements reach a vertical resolution up to 10nm even at steep flanks and strongly varying reflection properties. The technique is successfully used to perform form- and roughness measurements in quality assurance. Focus-Variation is included in the current draft of the upcoming ISO standard 25178 which for the first time includes optical measurement techniques as well.
