Inline inspection of freeform geometries

A flexible measuring cell to automatically check freeform geometries directly in production has lead to an enormous increase in quality assurance for Boysen, supplier in innovative emission systems. Both, the amount of rejects as well as reclamation requests are drastically reduced.

Alicona Imaging, 3D specialist and supplier in optical measurement and inspection developed a customised inspection system for the 100% control of exhaust manifolds focusing on particular features such as evenness of the flange face.

All measurements are performed in relation to the according CAD model and reach an accuracy of better 0.02mm in seconds. Innovative algorithms allow for the first time dimensional measurement instead of common point per point techniques.

Based on the interaction of optical measurement components and industrial robotic the inspection system provides outstanding properties as it is with the high flexibility of the system.
A simple reprogramming of the software allows the adjustment of different types of components. Also, it is not necessary to refit the system which makes it to a unique tool in quality assurance.
