ISO - International Organization for Standardization
As official delegate of the Austrian Standards Institute (Ö Norm), Alicona is authorized to actively participate and vote in the ISO committee for the definition of new standards and regulations. As provider for optical measurement and inspection Alicona is active in the penal of areal and profile surface texture, working on new standards in the field of optical surface metrology.
Currently the new norm 25178 to define new methods and technologies of optical surface metrology is about to be finalised. Both, Focus-Variation, which is the core technique of the optical 3D measurement device InfiniteFocus, as well as stereo microscopy for MeX are included as standardised techniques in this norm.
PTB - Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt
The Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB), Braunschweig and Berlin, Germany, is the national metrology institute providing worldwide leading scientific and technical services. Fundamental research and development in the field of metrology is performed by using innovative and latest technologies. Its metrological competence and research work is recognized on an international level.
At PTB, Alicona systems are mainly used for calibration work such as the calibration of measurement tools with the optical 3D measurement device InfiniteFocus. Also, InfiniteFocus is used for the development of new calibration standards and techniques.

NPL - The National Physical Laboratory
The National Physical Laboratory is the national standards laboratory in the UK. It is a globally recognized and established knowledge centre for research and development and a service point for industrial customers. The institute offers leading edge measurement technologies via worldwide metrology facilities. NPL also acts as a national demo facility for InfiniteFocus.
Alicona systems are used for various applications. At NPL, the suitability to measure complex geometries is particularly used for measurement tasks in the field of tribology and corrosion. Customers who contact NPL for a measurement solution in the sectors of automotive industry, materials science, corrosion analysis etc. are served with InfiniteFocus.
Fraunhofer Alliance
Alicona is partner of the German “Fraunhofer Gesellschaft” and in this capacity a selected key contact for optical 3D measurement solutions. The well established institute for applied research of direct utility to private and public enterprise is often first contact point for customers who are looking for a measurement solution that meets their individual demands in accuracy, speed and ease of use. Alicona is certified partner for optical 3d surface measurement and regularly active in publications, shows, seminars etc.
Ö Norm – Austrian Standards Institute
Alicona Imaging is an active member in the Austrian Standards Institute, an impartial platform for the preparation of standards and sets of regulations in Austria. The contribution in one of the various panels is compulsory for the participation in international and worldwide standardization committees such as ISO. As active member in the panel of technical documentation and revision, Alicona is co- author in the latest norm “Guideline for operation and definition of competence of operators of optical surface topography measurement instruments” (working title).
Alicona is the official delegate to represent the Austrian interests in the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) for the development and definition of norms and standards in the field of optical measurement and inspection.
NIST - National Institute of Standards and Technology
The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) is an internationally well known and established research and development centre with leading competences in developing new technologies, measurement methods, and standards. Also, NIST works with industry to secure the continuous growth and innovation of the US industry.
At NIST, Alicona systems are in use for various applications such as the 3D measurement of cartridges and bullet casings, geometry measurement of fuel cells as well or hardness measurement.
